Big Girl in a Big World

Hi! My name is Haley and I hope to be a successful real estate agent one day. Let’s be real though, I am a senior about to graduate college. Im officially a big girl now and I am scared! I am hoping this blog helps me figure out how to navigate where I want to be and where I belong in the real estate world. As I aspire to have a career in real estate, I want to take what I’m learning in public relations at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication and apply it to real estate. I am going to analyze what different real estate agents and firms are doing to get the word out about their properties and how they communicate to their target audience. I want to look at what methods work well, which methods we should say goodbye to, and hopefully discover some new methods along the way.

My love for real estate began when I was 15 and was moving out of the memory-filled house that I grew up in. While it was hard to say goodbye to that house, a new passion came out of it. My mom and I house-hunted for months trying to find the new perfect home for our family. My mom was very picky and had very specific requirements for the new house. It had to be southern facing for the perfect amount of sunlight, not too many trees, had to be in the right county for tax purposes, be in a good neighborhood, have a big kitchen, have a big backyard for the dog, etc… and on top of all of that, it had to be within her price range. This was a tedious but fun process for me. I began to look for homes on my own time and eventually when we found our perfect home, it was so rewarding because my family was happy in that house for years.

While I would love to jump right into selling properties, I need to start somewhere that I can use my skills in public relations and help out existing agents. Getting the word out about properties is super important and crucial to selling homes. Looking at and analyzing different communication methods will prove very helpful to aspiring and existing agents. I hope to gain relationships with aspiring and existing agents that have any advice for me while also offering my set of skills to them. I love talking to new people and gaining new perspectives so, please feel free to reach out to me as I navigate a career in real estate.
